Most of the IN.TUNE Alliance Community gathered in Vienna from 11 to 13 May 2026 for several days of discussion, collaboration and strategic planning. The Summit began with a dedicated meeting of the IN.TUNE Student Council, which came together a day before the official programme started. Alongside their regular meetings, members took time to reflect more deeply on what it means to engage in international higher music education and on the role students can play within IN.TUNE.
Throughout the year, the Student Council works closely with the alliance to represent student perspectives across IN.TUNE activities. Meeting in person during the Summit allowed discussions to develop more quickly and naturally, not only during formal sessions, but also during lunches, coffee breaks and social activities.
A key topic this year was the future development of the Student Council itself. As representatives gain experience, they continue refining the ways they collaborate and contribute effectively within the alliance. The Summit provided an important opportunity to exchange experiences, evaluate ongoing work and share knowledge with newer members.
The Council also discussed updated guidelines for the selection and voting procedures of future representatives. Since membership changes every year as students graduate, creating a clear onboarding process for new representatives was an important priority.
Another major moment during the Summit was the election of the new Chairing Team of the Student Council. The Chairing Team coordinates the work of student representatives across the alliance, acts as a link with IN.TUNE management, and represents the Student Council within the wider alliance structure.
The new Chairing Team consists of:
René Wynants, Chair —
University of the Arts The Hague
Dušan Dakić,
Vice-Chair — University of Arts in Belgrade
Vlad Cristian Ghinea, Secretary
— National University of Music Bucharest
Berta Homs Bastardas,
Substitute member — Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya
From June onwards, they will lead the Student Council into the next academic year.
Since the beginning of the IN.TUNE Alliance, the student perspective has been recognised as an essential part of the alliance’s development. For that reason, the Student Council is integrated into all areas of IN.TUNE’s work.
Each partner institution is represented by two students, together forming the Student Council as an advisory body. However, IN.TUNE aims to go beyond consultation alone. The alliance believes students should actively help shape the future of higher music education in Europe.
To support this, student representatives are included in each Work Package, allowing them to contribute directly to projects, policies and opportunities that affect student life across the alliance.
Students also play a role in the governance of IN.TUNE. Each institution is represented by one student in the Governing Board, giving students a meaningful voice in the alliance’s major decisions.
At its core, IN.TUNE aims to strengthen the European community of conservatoires. An essential part of that mission is the active involvement of students. Questions such as how students experience participation in a European University Alliance, and how they can best be included, remain central to the alliance’s work.
The Student Council helps ensure that IN.TUNE does not only discuss the future of students, but discusses the future together with students.
This year, four students will leave the Student Council following graduation or to focus on the final stage of their studies. We would like to thank them for their commitment, energy and insights, and wish them all the best for the future.
