The First IN.TUNE Knowledge Hub Is Open! Join the Conversation on Research Culture in Music and Arts (Higher) Education

The IN.TUNE Alliance is launching its first Knowledge Hub, and it is now open for participation! Centered on the theme Research Culture in Music & Arts (Higher) Education, this hub is a new space for students, teachers, and researchers across the Alliance to come together, exchange perspectives, and shape the future of research in music and arts education within and beyond their institutions.

This is more than a forum - it is a collaborative platform to share experiences, discuss the role of research in artistic and academic practice, and contribute to the creation of a shared IN.TUNE Research Cooperation Framework. It is also the first of three Knowledge Hubs that will be developed within IN.TUNE, each designed to spark multidisciplinary dialogue and innovation across our partner institutions.

Why This Hub, and Why Now?

The Knowledge Hub builds directly on the Inventory and Comparative Analysis of Research Activities conducted last year across all IN.TUNE partners. That process helped identify shared strengths, gaps, and emerging fields of research, as well their connection to the educational offer and frameworks within the Alliance. The Knowledge Hub now takes this foundation forward, turning insights into action.

Whether you are a student, a teacher navigating research in your practice, or a researcher looking for cross-institutional exchange, this Knowledge Hub is your space to connect, reflect, and collaborate.

What is Happening Next?

The hub's first major activity is the Annual IN.TUNE Research Event (AIRE), which will take place at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw) on the 3rd and 4th November 2025. Leading up to the event, participants will collaborate in the online Knowledge Hub to co-develop the content and discussion points for AIRE. This online engagement is not just a warm-up, but a vital part of shaping the event and continuing the conversation well after.

AIRE will feature contributions from both teachers and students of all eight partner institutions, highlighting diverse approaches to research in the arts and offering space for open discussion, comparison, and exchange. The ultimate goal being to build stronger connections between research and education, and fostering lasting partnerships across disciplines and institutions.

AIRE 2025 Focus Topics:

  • Towards a new perspective on research culture in the arts: How is research performed, and what impact does it have on how we teach and learn?
  • Researcher identities and roles in the arts: Who carries out research in the arts, and what role does it play in our institutions?
  • Resources and infrastructures for research: How is research supported, organized, and integrated into higher education settings?

More details about the Knowledge Hub, the AIRE event, and how to take part are available on the Tune in! page.
