Working Across Borders: WP2 Committee Meets in Bucharest to Push Seamless Mobility Forward

What does mobility really mean in 2025? From music performed live between Oslo and Bucharest to new student-led projects and cross-campus course design, IN.TUNE Work Package 2 Committee gathered in Bucharest from 26 to 28 May 2025, to shape the advancement of seamless mobility across the Alliance. Experts from all partner institutions convened to explore concrete ways of enabling more connected, collaborative, and flexible experiences across universities.

The gathering hosted by the National University of Music Bucharest was not just about policy or planning - it was about building real momentum, marking an important step toward shaping a more agile and inclusive mobility ecosystem within IN.TUNE.

From Vision to Action: Key Highlights

First Student-Led Projects Selected
A major outcome of the meeting was the selection of four student-led projects under the call Connect, Create and Collaborate Across Borders. These projects, led by teams from multiple IN.TUNE institutions, will launch in the coming academic year and explore podcasting, interdisciplinary collaboration, contemporary performance, and digital experimentation - each offering new formats for cross-border learning.

Interactive Q&A on Digital Tools
An open session with local faculty and the eLearning Working Group offered insight into real-time audio/video tools and how Learning Management Systems (LMS) are evolving within the Alliance. The exchange provided practical perspectives on how digital infrastructure can support artistic collaboration and remote music-making across institutions.

Rethinking Mobility in IN.TUNE
The Committee finalized a strategic paper outlining a shared IN.TUNE approach to mobility framing it as more than physical travel, and emphasizing its potential as a catalyst for learning, creativity, and community. This forms the foundation of the "Seamless IN.TUNE Student Journey"  - a vision for integrated transnational experiences across campuses and disciplines.

Music Across Borders: Live Performance
One of the events most powerful moments was a live transnational music performance connecting students and faculty from Bucharest and Oslo via the MVTP system. This follow-up to a workshop by Prof. David Arthur Skinner (NMH Oslo) illustrated how real-time distance performance can become a meaningful artistic tool. Snippets available in the event video

What is Coming Next?

Several new initiatives are now moving forward, shaped by the outcomes of the meeting and working group discussions:

eLearning Guidelines and Distance Learning Protocols
This autumn, IN.TUNE will publish shared guidance for course design using LMS and define clear procedures for delivering distance learning in joint formats.

Language & Culture Toolkit
A new set of resources will promote informal language learning, online networking, and cultural understanding enabling deeper connections across partner communities.

Outputs from the Multilingualism & Multiculturalism Task Force
Creative resources and practical materials will soon be released, exploring how diverse linguistic and cultural identities within the alliance can enhance closer creative exchanges in higher education and the arts.

The work carried out in Bucharest reflects a growing commitment across the IN.TUNE Alliance to rethink how mobility, digital learning, and collaboration can serve artistic and academic development. As efforts continue, the foundations are being laid for a more connected educational experience - one where borders are no barrier to creativity, opportunity, or community.
