MOBILITY PORTAL

IN.TUNE Mobility portal - the menu for your international experience

IN.TUNE is a European University Alliance of higher music and arts institutions working together to create meaningful mobility opportunities for students and staff. Because we know each other well, we can trust that the education you receive at any IN.TUNE partner institution maintains a high academic and artistic standard. We share a commitment to quality, where the student voice and perspective play an active role in shaping relevant and future oriented programmes.

What is student mobility?
"Mobility" is our umbrella term for the different types of exchange opportunities available through IN.TUNE. A mobility can take several forms:

  • a short or long physical stay at a partner institution,
  • a digital (virtual) mobility, where you remain at your home institution but participate in courses or lessons delivered by a partner,
  • or a blended mobility, combining physical and digital components.
You can read more about these different options below.

Why should I go?
An international experience during your studies can strengthen your artistic development, extend your professional network, and support your personal growth. Mobility offers insight into your own practice and how you collaborate with others across cultural and artistic contexts. The people you meet during a mobility may also become important collaborators or professional contacts in your future career.

How do I do this?

IN.TUNE is dedicated to making mobility seamless, ensuring that administrative hurdles do not stand in the way of your educational and artistic journey.

The support you receive will depend on the type of mobility you choose. Your teachers will always be involved, and for any physical mobility, the international office at your home institution is your main point of contact. Virtual mobilities may require information from several sources, but we aim to ensure the process is clear and manageable for you.

For all physical mobilities and some virtual ones, you will receive ECTS/credits when the course is completed and the learning outcomes are met. After completing your mobility, you will receive a transcript of records, which you then submit to your home institution so the credits can be recognised as part of your degree.

For physical mobilities, you may be eligible for an Erasmus+ grant to support travel and living expenses. Grant availability can vary, but our aim is that all students participating in an IN.TUNE mobility are offered a grant if funds are available. You will then need to complete the required paperwork, which your international office will prepare and guide you through.

Academic partners

What types of mobilitites can I do?

SEMESTER ABROAD

A Semester Abroad within IN.TUNE gives you the opportunity to spend one semester – or a full academic year – at one of the alliance’s partner institutions. The IN.TUNE partners work closely together on curricula, artistic projects, and student-centred learning, which means that your mobility becomes a natural extension of your studies rather than something separate from them.

You remain enrolled at your home institution, and the courses approved in your study plan (Learning Agreement) will be recognised as part of your degree. Because the IN.TUNE institutions have established strong academic and artistic connections, the process of planning your semester abroad is well-coordinated and ensures continuity in your artistic development.

During your stay, you become part of another IN.TUNE learning environment—meeting new teachers, peers, and artistic approaches that complement what you work with at home. This shared framework across the alliance gives you the chance to explore new perspectives while still moving forward in your programme in a structured and academically coherent way.

Your mobility may be supported by an Erasmus+ grant to help with living expenses during your stay, if funds are available. Your international office will guide you through the practical steps and necessary paperwork.

A Semester Abroad within IN.TUNE is a good choice for students who want an immersive learning experience in a partner institution that shares the alliance’s values: high artistic quality, collaborative learning, and a commitment to student development across borders.

Below, you will find links to all eight IN.TUNE partner institutions, where you can read more about mobility opportunities, application procedures, and what each institution offers to incoming students.

SHORT-TERM EXCHANGE AND BLENDED INTENSIVE PROGRAMMES

If you’re curious about studying abroad but not quite ready to commit to a full semester, a short-term exchange within IN.TUNE can be a great first step. Many students choose a shorter mobility to get a feel for what it’s like to study in another IN.TUNE environment — often travelling together with a group from their own institution. This can help you build confidence and may spark an interest in returning for a longer stay later in your studies.

Because the IN.TUNE institutions work closely together on artistic and educational development, short-term mobilities are designed to connect directly to what you’re already working on in your programme. You might take part in intensive courses, ensemble projects, thematic workshops, project weeks, or collaborative artistic productions. Some activities are organised as Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs), where students and teachers from multiple IN.TUNE partners work together through a mix of physical and online components.

Short-term mobilities usually award ECTS, which are recognised as part of your degree once the activity is completed and the learning outcomes are met. Your participation may also be supported by Erasmus+ funding, and your international office will guide you through the practical steps and required paperwork.

A short-term exchange is ideal if you want to experience international artistic collaboration in a compact, well-supported format—or if you’d like to try it out before choosing a longer mobility later on.

VIRTUAL EXCHANGES

Virtual exchanges give you the chance to take part in international learning from your own institution while connecting with students and teachers across the IN.TUNE network. These activities let you explore new perspectives and work with peers in other countries, without needing to travel or pause your regular studies.

Some virtual exchanges take place as joint online courses or modules offered together by several IN.TUNE institutions. Teaching and collaboration happen through shared digital platforms, in a synchronous (real-time) or asynchronous mode, where you work together in lectures, discussions, group tasks, seminars, or other interactive formats. These online activities can either carry their own ECTS as a full course, or form part of a larger module you are already enrolled in, in which case the learning is recognised within that course.

Other virtual exchanges focus on artistic collaboration, where you rehearse, perform, or receive guidance across physical distance in real time. These activities use specialised technology that allows for high-quality interaction between institutions. Because this kind of artistic work requires technical preparation and support, it is offered through particular opportunities and coordinated activities across the IN.TUNE partners.

Virtual exchanges give you the opportunity to expand your artistic and academic experience with flexible formats that fit your schedule. Opportunities develop continuously as IN.TUNE expands its shared course catalogue and tests new collaborative models.

If you want to join a virtual exchange, follow what’s happening at your own institution and keep an eye on the growing IN.TUNE course catalogue. You can also contact your eLearning coordinator to learn about current and upcoming opportunities.

INTERNSHIP AND RESIDENCY

Internships and residencies within IN.TUNE give you the chance to take your learning beyond the classroom and into real professional and artistic environments across Europe. Through our network of associate partners and trusted professional collaborators, you can gain experience in workplaces and creative settings connected to your field, while building skills and contacts that may shape your future career.

An internship is a professional placement abroad where you work in a real-world environment such as a cultural organisation, ensemble, company, festival, research group, or creative institution. All the opportunities listed in the IN.TUNE Mobility Portal are recommended and connected to the professional networks around our partner institutions. There is also an option to create your own internship if you have a specific organisation or project in mind—see below for more information about this.

A residency gives you dedicated time and space to work intensively on an artistic or creative project in a new environment. During a residency, you can focus on developing an idea, exploring new methods, or collaborating with artists and professionals connected to the host institution. Many residencies culminate in a performance, exhibition, sharing or other public presentation of your work.

Whether an internship or residency can form part of your degree depends on your study programme. Some students have room in their curriculum to include this kind of experience, while for others it is most relevant to undertake immediately after graduation. Your institution can help you understand what is possible in your specific situation.

If your home institution has available Erasmus+ funding for traineeships, you may be able to apply for financial support for your stay abroad.

IN.TUNE institutions collaborate closely with a wide range of professional partners, and new opportunities develop continuously. Below, you will find the recommended internships and residencies currently available, along with information about how to take the next step.

Create your own internship

If you have a specific organisation, ensemble, festival, company or project you would like to work with, you can create your own internship abroad. This gives you the flexibility to shape an experience that matches your artistic interests and career goals. You start by identifying a relevant organisation, reaching out to them, and exploring whether they can host you. Many professional environments are open to motivated students who can explain what they want to learn, what they can contribute, and why the placement is a good fit

Once you have an organisation that is interested, your home institution will help you understand what is possible within your study programme. Some students have room in their curriculum to include an internship, while for others it is most relevant to carry it out right after graduation. Your international office can support you in assessing feasibility and guide you through the practical steps needed to formalise the placement.

DEGREE MOBILITY

If you’re ready to take a bigger step, degree mobility allows you to complete a full Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate at another IN.TUNE institution. You apply through the regular admission process at the institution you’re interested in, and you compete on the same terms as all other applicants.

Choosing an IN.TUNE institution for your next degree means joining a learning environment shaped by shared values, close collaboration and a strong commitment to quality. Quality assurance and continuous quality development are core priorities within the alliance, and the partner institutions work together to ensure that programmes remain relevant, student-centred and artistically strong.

Because the IN.TUNE partners know each other’s programmes, artistic profiles and quality frameworks well, you enter a context that is new—but still connected to what you may already have experienced through joint activities in the alliance. This makes it easier to continue your artistic and academic development in a setting that aligns with your needs, expectations and ambitions.

Studying for a full degree abroad gives you access to new mentors, new artistic communities and a broader professional network. You can deepen your specialisation, explore new perspectives and take advantage of opportunities that may not exist at your home institution. At the same time, you remain part of the wider IN.TUNE community, where collaboration, mobility and quality enhancement are integrated into the educational culture.

Below, you’ll find links to all IN.TUNE institutions with information on how to apply for regular admission. If you’re considering taking your next degree abroad within the alliance, your international office or study advisor can help you understand the process and what to expect.
