In March, 35 students from across the IN.TUNE Alliance gathered in The Hague for an intensive week-long seminar on sound system design and optimisation, led by acclaimed sound system engineer Merlijn van Veen. With sessions held in Studio 1 and the Concert Hall of the Royal Conservatoire, the course combined theoretical insight with hands-on experimentation, guided by Van Veen’s energetic and engaging teaching style.
Working with measurement microphones, real-time data and their own laptops, students explored the intricate relationship between acoustics, perception, and technology — sharpening their skills in both analysis and creative problem-solving.
This seminar is part of IN.TUNE’s joint specialisation in Sound Reinforcement, uniquely offered by The Hague, Paris, and Vienna. By combining forces, the institutions offer students access to expertise, facilities, and international peer exchange that no single academy could provide alone.
The accompanying video offers a glimpse into the collaborative and high-energy atmosphere that defined the week. Faculty and students reflect on the educational, technical, and cultural value of the experience — and on how IN.TUNE continues to shape a truly transnational learning environment.
Experiences from intensive joint seminars like this one will be used in the development of joint blended intensive programmes in IN.TUNE, starting from this year on.
