With enthusiasm and a commitment to educational innovation, the IN.TUNE alliance launched the Artist as Teacher course in November 2024. The course is designed to provide teachers from the IN.TUNE academic institutions with engaging learning experiences that enhance their ability to educate and coach music students, expanding their knowledge and teaching skills.
The course began with an exploration of teaching strategies for future musicians, effective feedback methods, and the dynamics of teacher-student relationships. These initial sessions, held on November 22 and 23, 2024, at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, were led by three experts across different topics, with 25 participating teachers in practical and interactive learning experiences.
As the course progresses, it continues with a series of scheduled online sessions. These include a session on January 31, 2025, focusing on artistic research, followed by the topic on musicians' health on February 7, 2025. The discussions in March will address power relations and self-regulated learning. The course will then feature live sessions in April 2025, specifically on April 4 and 5, held again at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. These sessions will focus on motor learning, attentional focus, and professional practices in the arts, aiming to prepare teachers for the evolving demands of music education.
This comprehensive course not only seeks to enhance the individual skills of music teachers but also focuses on strengthening their professional development. With its commitment to supporting the continuous professional growth of music educators and serving as a role model for music higher education, IN.TUNE's efforts reflect its aim to influence positively across its network of European music and arts academic institutions.
